Finding Your Civil War Relative at the Will Mayfield Heritage Foundation’s History and Genealogy Day

Here is the list of about 100 names taken from a copy of the 1864 roster in the Missouri Historical Society’s collection of the 3rd Mo. Calvary Co. K (USA): If any of these men were members of your family we would appreciate you sharing your knowledge about them or if you need help finding out more about them, we would be happy to help.

“Finding Your Civil War Ancestors” will be the topic of Dr. Bill Eddleman’s presentation on Thursday, August 29th at 6:00 p.m. as a part of the activities during the Will Mayfield Heritage Foundation’s Annual History and Genealogy Day at the Bollinger County Museum of Natural History in Mayfield Hall, one of the two remaining buildings on the former campus of Will Mayfield College (1878-1934) in Marble Hill, MO. Dr.Bill Eddleman is a retired Professor of Biology who is currently the Associate Director for the Cape Girardeau Research Center of the State Historical Society of Missouri. He is a native of Cape Girardeau with Southeast Missouri ancestry going back 8 generations, and has done genealogical and local history research for over 25 years. He is also a Civil War reenactor in Co. E, First Missouri Engineers, Turner Brigade. He is the author of 20 books of local record transcriptions.

The volunteer staff will also share the Will Mayfield College history and student records. The Bollinger County Archives just a few blocks from the museum will also be open 2:00- 4:30 and will be available for research. The plans for a local area history project to be expanded into an museum exhibit covering the people and places of the Civil War in Southeast Missouri will be shared. We are starting our project with the soldier rosters of the companies that we know were formed and fought in Bollinger County and the surrounding area of Southeast Missouri both Union and Confederate.

After compiling biographies and a history of the members of the 3rd MO Co. K. (USA), we will move to the rosters of the 7th and 8th MO Calvary (CSA).

We would like to hear from any descendants of these soldiers.
