Reception to honor Maurice "Moe" Sandfort

The Cape Area Community Foundation invites the public to attend an Open House to honor Maurice “Moe” Sandfort for his service to the Cape board and to the community.

The Open House will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Celebrations Downtown, 19 N. Spanish St., in Cape Girardeau. No RSVP is necessary.

Sandfort was a founding member and inspiration for the CACF, which started in 2015. Sandfort also served as the first staff member for the new affiliate of the Community Foundation of the Ozarks. He opened the CFO’s first office in eastern Missouri in 2015.

After four years serving the CACF, Sandfort is retiring – again. He previously spent a 46-year career in banking, working in executive management positions in Cape Girardeau, West Plains, Columbia and St. Charles. He also taught principles of banking courses for the American Institute of Banking. He has been involved in a number of civic organizations over the years, including St. Francis Medical Center, Trinity Lutheran Church, the Southeast Missouri State University Foundation, Rotary and United Way.

“We have been honored to be a part of Moe’s long record of community service to the region and to philanthropy,” CFO President Brian Fogle said. “We will ensure his legacy continues through our ‘focus on forever’ in building funds through the Cape Area Community Foundation to support the region in perpetuity.”

Since its inception in 2015, the CACF has grown to assets of more than $560,000 held in 32 charitable funds.

Anyone wishing to honor Sandfort and his wife, Patricia, may consider a contribution to the Maurice R. and Patricia J. Sandfort Family Fund, which supports their community-based philanthropy interests. For more information, contact Judy Cantoni, CFO East Region Manager, at jcantoni@cfozarks.org.
