Lions state convention

More than 300 Lions attended the Missouri Lions 2015 State Convention this past weekend, enjoying the hospitality of the Cape Girardeau community.

A lot happened, including a warm welcome from Mayor Harry Rediger and Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder. We were able to raise money that will help offset funds the Lions Clubs International Foundation has already set aside, helping our (Lions) boots on the ground in Nepal. The weather was perfect for the ceremony held at the wonderful shelter the Cape Girardeau Evening Optimists Club placed next to Melaina's Magical Playland, where we saluted our veterans and those Lions whom have passed on this year.

I was often tapped on the shoulder by attendees remarking how impressed they were of the warmth and hospitality offered by folks in Cape Girardeau, be it the person who took care of their room, worked in the restaurant and/or the local store they visited.

This year marked the beginning of the Centennial Celebration for the Lions Club International Foundation. For members of the Missouri Lions, there could be no better community to start this celebration than Cape Girardeau.
