Newspaper celebrates 110 years

Last month, we celebrated our 110th anniversary at the Southeast Missourian.

Last week, we published a special section commemorating the history and news during that time.

We received quite a few comments of appreciation on the special section, and we loved hearing the feedback. Our readers noted that we left one decade out of our timeline that ran in the section. Those readers will be happy to know that we placed the entire timeline online. To reminisce over the news of the last 110 years, simply go to semissourian.com/history, and you can find the timeline (with much more than we could fit in print) there.

Recording history is part of what we do here at the newspaper. From telling important stories, to recording births and deaths and so many things in between, we provide a historical record of what's happening in our community on micro and macro levels.

But we're not always looking in the rearview mirror. Last month we also launched a new design of the newspaper. We hope you find the design refreshing and modern. We have received several compliments on our new aesthetics. It was a project several months in the making. We have also launched an improved version of semoevents.com, the place everyone can search and submit their events for our community calendar. We encourage you to go and take a look.

The newspaper sure has changed during the last 110 years, and perhaps no 10-year period has led to more adjustments than the one that ends in 2014. But our readers continue to remind us how much they care about their news and community. We are inspired by that.

Thank you for all who have reached out in the last several days to offer compliments. They mean a lot. Thank you for reading the Southeast Missourian.
