Employment for individuals with autism

April is Autism Awareness month. Last month we lost Dr. David Crowe who was instrumental in bringing autism awareness to our community. One of Dr. Crowe's aims was to find meaningful employment for those with high-functioning autism through The Tailor Institute. My son became a member of The Tailor Institute as it began, and we are very thankful for the social opportunities he has had as a member. My son, like many other people with autism, has a college degree and is qualified for employment but has had trouble finding a job because of difficulties with interviews.

According to the National Foundation for Autism Research, "Individuals with high-functioning autism tend to have the skills and abilities well suited for technical careers. They are highly intelligent, have a high attention to detail, and thrive in predictable and independent work environments."

If you support Autism Awareness and The Tailor Institute with financial contributions, then please consider hiring individuals with autism. Companies that need individuals who are dedicated, detail oriented and hard working also should consider hiring an individual with autism. They will be an asset to your businesses.
