Salvation Army needs help last few days before Christmas

The holiday shopping season was cut short a bit this year, with the late Thanksgiving. The Cape Girardeau Salvation Army knew it was facing that calendar challenge heading into its Red Kettle campaign.

Then a major snowstorm hit during a major weekend for donations and hurt the bell ringers to the tune of more than $20,000.

The Cape Girardeau chapter set a goal of $384,000 for its seasonal goal. As of Friday morning, the Salvation Army had only reached 55 percent of its goal.

Christmas Eve is the last day for the Red Kettle campaign. The Salvation Army does noble work for the poor and hungry.

As you're out and about the next couple of days, be sure to empty out that loose change and stuff those red kettles.
