Historic Preservation Walking Tour on May 10

To celebrate Historic Preservation Month, the Cape Girardeau Historic Preservation Commission will hold its free annual walking tour at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 10.

Featured on the walking tour is a turn-of-the-century residential neighborhood located on Lorimier Street in downtown Cape Girardeau. Many of the street's residences are a part of a National Register Historic District (the Courthouse-Seminary District), and many of the buildings reflect the national house forms and designs popular at the turn of the 19th Century and into the early 20th century.

This year's walk begins at the southeast corner Independence and Lorimier streets. The walking tour will be led by Dr. Steven Hoffman, Coordinator of Southeast Missouri State's Historic Preservation program, and Alyssa Lage, Vice-Chairperson of the Cape Girardeau Historic Preservation Commission. Lage is also a graduate of Southeast's Historic Preservation Program.
