5th Annual Mouse Races for MS

Dave the Mouse Man setting the rules!

Join us on Saturday, April 27th for Cape Girardeau's version of the Kentucky Derby. The 5th Annual Mouse Races for MS will be held at the VFW located at 1049 North Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau. The event hosted by Sandy Hoffman of MedAssets and Lisa Rogers of Care Purchasing Services, Inc., will feature 36 mice, competing in six races with the winner of those six races competing in a final race to see which mouse earns the title of "The Fastest Mouse in the Midwest"! All the proceeds from this event will go directly to the Gateway Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and be used to fund important research, programs and services.

Multiple Sclerosis, more often known as MS, is a chronic disease that attacks the central nervous system, which includes the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. Symptoms can be very mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or more severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision. Currently there are over 6900 self-reported cases of multiple sclerosis in the Gateway Area Chapter's 90-county area, with 600 of those living in southeast Missouri and extreme southernmost Illinois.

This year's mouse races are being held in honor of the late Robert "Jolly Bob" Cox, who attended the Mouse Races since they first began. When asked how he got involved with the races, his wife, Margaret Cox, responded, "We heard about the races from Jeanne Churchill and it sounded like a very entertaining evening for a good cause. Bob's aunt had MS so we were already involved in the cause. The event was so much fun the first go round we kept coming back for more."

Doors, betting windows, dinner and complimentary beer begins at 6:30 p.m. Dinner is being sponsored by Great Boars of Fire of Cobden, IL. The races and cash bar begin at 7:30 with Karaoke provided by TJ Jackson Sound System & Karaoke to follow. The event ends at midnight.

Tickets may be purchased in advance for $20 per person, $35 per couple, or $140 per table of 8. Tickets may also be purchased at the door for $25 per person. If you cannot attend the event and would like to sponsor a mouse for $25, your name will be read when your mouse races.
