Bam! Pow! Cape!

It's time to step out of the phone booth. A "super" three-day event kicks off in Cape Girardeau today.

Cape Comic Con -- which features special guests, vendors, comic book artists and more -- has gained increased interest locally over the past seven years. Organizers hope to attract 1,000 attendees this year from five or six states. With that expectation the show has been moved to the Arena Building.

A story in today's SE Live highlights several of the festivities going on this weekend. But one of the more entertaining features is the costume competition. Set for 3 p.m. Saturday, the contest will showcase a number of creative entries. Contests will be held for adults and children.

New this year will be a costume party, which will start at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Arena Park 4H Building. Tickets for this party will only be sold at the Comic Con until 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Our Spidey senses tell us that whether you're an avid comic book fan or are just interested in the costumes, there's something to check out this weekend. For an event that would normally be found in larger cities like Gotham, this weekend's festivities provide fun closer to home. May the family be with you.

For more about the events, guests, pricing and other information, visit cape-con.com or the Cape Comic Con Facebook Page.

We do apologize, but only a little, for the cheesy wordplay in this editorial. Holy bad puns, Batman!
