School musicals

There will be much singing, dancing and acting this weekend as three local high schools perform popular musicals.

Cape Girardeau Central High School will host its first play in the new Richard D. Kinder Performance Hall beginning tonight. The inaugural production is "The Diary of Anne Frank" and will be performed by a 10-member cast.

Shows will be at 7 p.m. today through Saturday. Tickets may be purchased at the door and are $7 for adults and $5 for students.

Featuring athleticism in addition to other talents, Notre Dame Regional High School will present "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" during the next few days.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. today through Sunday in the school's cafetorium. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased by calling 335-6722, extension 311.

Students from Saxony Lutheran High School will be joined by others in the area to perform "The Wizard of Oz." A story on today's neXt page reports that in addition to the student actors, 31 elementary students from area schools will participate as munchkins.

A 7 p.m. Friday production will kickoff the musical, and two additional performances will be at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday. All shows will be at the Perry Park Center Theatre in Perryville, Mo. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for children and students through high school. As of noon Wednesday, tickets were selling quickly, according to the school office.

These are always fun events and great opportunities to support students and the arts. In addition to the directors, parents and other community members play important roles, and we offer our thanks for your support.

We wish all of the cast members and directors well in the upcoming performances.
