New Shelter Open at Dennis Scivally Park

New shelter at Dennis Scivally Park now open.

City staff, City Council members, and the public attended a ribbon cutting event for the new shelter at Dennis Scivally Park on Wednesday, Aug. 24 at 12 p.m. The new shelter was a joint venture of the Parks and Recreation Storm Water Development projects approved by voters in 2008 and the Cape Girardeau Evening Optimist's Adopt-a-Park pledge, renovating the former structure on site.

Mayor Harry Rediger, City Manager Scott Meyer, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Chairman Danny Essner, Parks and Recreation Director Julia Thompson, and Park Division Manager Brock Davis presented information about the shelter during the event. Cape Girardeau Evening Optimist President Jody Simmons presented the city with a check from the organization's fundraising efforts to assist with the shelter renovations.
