Honor Tour

Thirty Word War II veterans recently got the chance of a lifetime to visit the famous war memorials in Washington, D.C., thanks to the Honor Tour.

The veterans were sent off with a special ceremony in Perryville that included a performance by the Perryville High School choir and jazz band as well as speeches from dignitaries. Residents lined the streets and waved flags as the bus took off with a police escort.

The Honor Tour was founded by Rob Callahan of Poplar Bluff, Mo. Many individuals and groups, such as Saint Francis Medical Center, have supported the tour in its organization and fundraising.

Callahan said the tour was filled with emotions. One veteran on the tour said it was the best three days of his life.

Each Honor Tour costs about $30,000. The next tour is scheduled for April. Those interested in supporting the Honor Tour can send donations to: Stoddard County Development Foundation, P.O. Box 625, Bloomfield, MO 63825.

Thanks to all of the Honor Tour organizers and financial supporters. This is a great service to veterans who would otherwise never have this opportunity.
