Cape trolley tracks uncovered
Thursday, October 21, 2010
Workers from Dutch Enterprises uncovered old trolley tracks Wednesday while working on a private sewer project on Broadway Street. Cape Girardeau had a trolley system from 1893 to 1934. In 1904, the system changed to electric street cars. Additional track was added at various times. One line went west on Broadway to the fairgrounds, now Capaha Park. Southeast Missourian archives suggest that the portion of rail discovered on Wednesday was put down in 1905.
