Local fourth-grader starts business making burp cloths

Sunday, August 29, 2010

Local fourth-grader Sydni McAtee, 9, became inspired to start her own business after making baby burp clothes with her mother one day. Her new endeavor, Sydni's Southern Designs, will donate part of the proceeds to the Delta Children's Home. McAtee said that she wanted to learn about how business works and to also raise money for the home. McAtee's burp cloths are handmade, with sewing assistance from her mom. Each piece has a label, drawn by Sydni, that tells her story. The burp cloths sell for $5 each, with $2 from each sale going to the Delta Children's Home. McAtee said the burp cloths are available for purchase at Tara Duffel's Studio 119, located at 119 First Street in Kennett, Mo. McAtee is the daughter of Bart and Laurie McAtee of Kennett.
