Habitat for Humanity Groundbreaking

There was a time, when you worked hard,you saved,

And you paid for what you had.

But thanks to Habitat for Humanity, they hand you a house. Oh sure, they say that the recipients have to work for it. I'd do a little hammering here, a little painting there, to get a home free and clear. Wouldn't you?

I'm sure the Dalton's are fine people. I don't really know them.

But, I do know this system is broke, how do you choose one family over another? Who's the supreme commander in charge of this?

I will not give one cent to this organization. If you haven't noticed, our Government has done a fine job of giving our money away to worthless programs, without our help.

Habitat for Humanity is not a "hand-out", it is a hand up; this means that applicants must put in "sweat equity" hours, which is 250 hours work for a single person, on a Habitat home or at our ReStore, or 350 hours for a couple. We have a family selection committee which approves applicants based on need, ability to pay and willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity. Applicants undergo a rigorous application process where they are interviewed, a credit check is done, and references are checked. Applicants must make a down payment and pay closing costs. They are required to make a 20 year mortgage payment. The mortgage payment is interest free, but our homeowners have worked harder than most because they actually help build their own home. This program doesn't just give people houses. They do have to make payments on the house, of course they are reduced payments, but they still pay. And there is also a certain amount of "community service" hours the family has to put in. So it isn't like they just sign up and are given a house. There is a lot more to it thatn that.

If they are able to make payment on a 20 year note, then why in the world would they need a house given to them. And I use that term again, because your 250 hours of hard labor--is nothing compared to what the working class has to do to keep food on the table.

I'll bet money, that the recipient of this house and most other that are built by Habitat recieve SSI,Food Stamps, Medicare, etc.

Build up your community--your down town area--Which by the way is falling apart.

You Habitat freaks solicate buinesses and people for free labor and supplies. But what's the return?
