Questions about U.S. jobs, trade

To the editor:

There are some things going on that bother me. Perhaps U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson could help by answering some questions.

1. Where are all the good jobs in the United States going?

2. What will happen if our major factories are shut down and the work sent overseas?

3. Has the Department of Commerce really conducted seminars for nearly 20 years encouraging big companies to shut down their U.S. factories and transfer jobs overseas?

4. Isn't it true that non-manufacturing nations quickly become poor nations?

5. Is it true that Congress is using our taxes to subsidize the building of factories overseas?

6. Why are foreign workers being brought in to take American jobs under the dangerous, open-ended visa scheme to displace American workers?

7. Are U.S. taxes being used to hire foreign workers to take American jobs?

8. Why would Congress consider making things worse with the dangerous Central American Free Trade Agreement, which would prohibit American agriculture exports for years to come?

9. Why are there restrictions on U.S. exporting but no such restrictions on CAFTA countries?

10. Instead of voting for these destructive trade agreements, why don't you help repair the damage by voting no on CAFTA, which hurts farmers and the U.S. economy?
