Bowling visitors

This is the second weekend for the Missouri State Women's Championship Bowling Tournament being held in Cape Girardeau and Jackson. At the end of the eight-weekend event, winners will be named in five divisions. More than 2,500 bowlers are expected to take part in the tournament, whose theme this year is "Celebrating Life, Striking Out Cancer."

Welcome, bowlers. We hope you enjoy your visit.

While you are in the area, be sure to take advantage of the many interesting and fun things to do. History abounds in this part of Missouri, and you can get a taste at historic homes, state historic sites, state parks, museums, interpretive centers and floodwall murals. The arts are flourishing, too. In addition to many galleries, Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus for the visual and performing arts is a stunning venue that is featuring a lively production of Neil Simon's "Rumors" this weekend. There is a big selection of shopping -- you do like to shop, right? -- and dining possibilities. High school plays are being presented -- and they're wonderful.

As your tournament progresses, you will find many other options for your free time. Make the most of it. Explore the area.

Have fun. And good luck to all the bowlers.
