MINUTES OF THE MARCH 19, 2010 MEETING OF THE PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN

The second 2010 Quarterly Meeting of the Women of Jackson's First Presbyterian Church was called to order by Moderator, Anne Smith. Her opening prayer was read from the Horizon magazine. Jonell McNeely accompanied as we sang "Angel Voices". The Presbyterian Purpose was read in unison.

The Minutes of the last Quarterly Meeting were read & accepted. There were 15 present: seven from the Esther/Hannah Circle, seven from the Perdue/Lear Circle with 1 guest.

Shirley Hutton, treasurer, handed out copies of the Treasurer's Report.

Correspondence, consisting of a Thank You from "Support Dogs, Inc." and Shirley Hutton was read.

Committee reports:

Jonell McNeely, CWU representative, reported that their next meeting will be a Board Meeting at the Furth House, owned by Ste. Vincent's church and located across Spanish street from the church, at 9:00 am, April 9th. May Friendship Day will be held the first Friday in May in our church at 6:00 PM. Covered dishes will be brought in for a light meal.

Fran Reid, Mission Chairman, reported that the "Blanket the World in Love" drive netted $522. The next offering will be the "Birthday Offering" the first or second Sunday in May.

Search Chairman, Alene Friese, sent word that Anne Smith has consented to serve as Moderator again next year and Carolyn Thompson will serve as Secretary. They will be installed at the May meeting.

Support Chairman, Carolyn Thompson, reported that she and her committee served lunch to two family groups this last month -- the Huttons and the Carnells.

Together in Service committee chairman, Mona Hamilton, reported that she has $225 remaining in her budget. Mary Morton made a motion to donate $100 to Church World Service for disaster relief in Chile following their earth quake to be taken from the P.W. Checkbook, Roberta Brown seconded, passed. Mona made a motion to donate $25 to LoveInc. from the Unified Budget and to start a box for donations to them to be kept at the Steck House.

New Business:

Shirley Hutton requested that a committee be formed to update the Presbyterian Women's By-Laws; the last edition being in 2003. It was decided that the committee would consist of Committee Chairmen: Jonell McNeely, Fran Reid, Judy Litzelfelner, Alene Friese, Carolyn Thompson and Mona Hamilton, along with Shirley Hutton and Anne Smith.

Carolyn Thompson reminded us that we needed to spend the $120 she had earned us by turning in Best Choice Labels very generously collected by the congregation. She made a motion that we send equal amounts of $40 each to the Midwest Learning Center in Farmington, the Safe House in Cape Girardeau and Disaster Relief in Chile. Fran seconded and it was passed.

The Spring Gathering will be held in Kirkwood at the First Presbyterian Church Friday, April 16th. Their program will be entitled "Wonders of God: Hope for the Future". They will be collecting donations of First Aide supplies for Mt. Ridge Camp. We had been asked to host the Fall Gathering in 2010. After much discussion it was decided that we would volunteer to host the Spring Gathering in 2011. Much work and many hands will be needed before that time to prepare our facility for the many visitors the Gathering will bring to our facility.

The program was given by Nancy Bray from the Cape Girardeau First Presbyterian Church. She taught us about Angels. Her most memorable point being that when we die we do NOT turn into angels. Her talk was enjoyed by all.

Historian, Jane Lysell, brought the 2010 History Book she has completed. Those present enjoyed perusing it's pages and exclaiming about the memories it provoked. It will be accessible for the congregation's enjoyment in the Fellowship Hall in the days to come.

"Morning Munchies" were provided by the Perdue Lear Circle.
