My mom, my war hero

We stop to honor our veterans of wars on Memorial Day, and we take time to honor our military on the Fourth of July. I would propose that my mother fits that same category of veteran due the same honor.

Mom did not join the military and go off to Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Kosovo or Afghanistan. What she did was marry a World War II soldier and raise a family of four boys and three girls.

Those boys grew up and served in the Army, one in Germany, one in Vietnam and two career military men with service in war zones during their many years of service. All of them served with honor and no blight on their records of service.

As for the girls, two of them married young men who served in the military during the Vietnam conflict.

She also saw a brother join the military as well as several brothers-in-law.

We should take time during our Fourth of July celebrations to recognize the sacrifice and dedication of many mothers just like mine. These mothers have given much to see that this country has remained free. Mom and all mothers of the United States, we salute you today.
