Killing is not pro-life position

The shooting death of Dr. George Tiller, an abortion provider in Kansas, has shocked his family, friends and the residents of Wichita. It has also shocked the pro-life movement. The killer clearly wanted to send a message, and he did just that.

This action, however, sends the wrong message. Not only was it murder and thus contradictory to the pro-life position, it also plays into the hands of abortionists. They will no doubt push for more action against pro-life groups, and this would be their ammunition.

As one who is pro-life, I object to partial-birth abortion, the procedure Dr. Tiller is known for. I also object, however, to the actions of his killer. They only serve to undercut the peaceful efforts of those who are truly pro-life. These are individuals and groups who work within the law to affect policy change, where abortion is concerned.

If we wish to end abortion, we must do it the right way. Killing an abortion provider does not make you a pro-life hero, just another killer.
