Balanced budget

In his Jan. 17 column, Jonah Goldberg, like all the journalists and economists, discusses the current economy woes without addressing the one leading us into the next Great Depression. My reference is to the enormous public debt left us by President Reagan and the Bush presidents to the tune of $11 trillion. President Obama promises to enlarge it promptly by an additional $1 trillion.

Why can't they accept the fact that we must have a constitutional amendment requiring a federal balanced budget and take it from there?
