Support for real ban on cloning

To the editor:Missouri Right to Life enthusiastically supports the joint resolution proposed by state Sen. Matt Bartle and state Rep. Jim Lembke which would place on the 2008 ballot a proposed amendment to ban all human cloning and to close massive loopholes to such a ban that currently exist in the Missouri Constitution.

We know that more than 80 percent of Missourians oppose all human cloning. We also know that the voters in an overwhelming majority of legislative and senatorial districts rejected human cloning Nov. 7 with their no vote on Amendment 2. Considering the ballot language of that amendment, we can also surmise that even many who voted in favor of the amendment were voting to ban human cloning. This joint resolution is an opportunity to build on the message of Nov. 7 and give Missourians the opportunity to fully enact their wish to ban all human cloning.

We encourage all Missourians to read the simple 40-word proposal of this joint resolution, which is posted at www.senate.mo.gov/bartle.
