DWI has costly consequences

To the editor: This is in response to the story about Ella Jean Pleasant's efforts to renew her driver's license.

While I sympathize with her financial situation, that is not the issue here. The fact that she must pay so much to renew a license is that 35 years ago she made a decision to drive while intoxicated. In the process she injured someone else, paid a fine, spent a day in jail and had her license revoked for three years. Now she must pay $500 to get her license renewed.

I don't understand why she is complaining. She is not the only person caught driving under the influence who must pay. For every action there is a reaction.
