Bell City board, others should resign

To the editor:

I read the May 22 headlines and saw that the Bell City School District would have to repay to the state $19,000 it illegally obtained. As a grandfather, a former school board member and past president of the Bell City Improvement Corp., I find it necessary to ask for the resignations of six of the seven school board members along with the superintendent and any others who conspired to obtain education funds illegally.

This action was done not for the purpose of academics, but for the purpose of sports. Had the students been enrolled for the purpose of receiving an education, I would not complain. The actions of the board and administration was to cheat their opponent, lie to the community and defraud the state of tax dollars. These illegal, immoral and unethical actions are not the type of education I want my grandchildren exposed to.

If there are not some changes in the board and administration, I will start a petition drive to remove the ones who were involved in these actions and also seek legal advice. These actions are a slap in the face to the Bell City community. It makes the community appear to be liars and cheaters. The whole state now knows how our leaders have taught our students to accomplish a goal no matter the cost.
