NEW YORK -- Shane Spencer hit a two-out grand slam in the eighth inning -- no, not against Byung-Hyun Kim -- and the New York Yankees rallied past the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-5 Monday night in a rematch of last year's World Series teams.

Spencer homered on a full-count pitch from Bret Prinz after the Yankees chased Randy Johnson (9-2) earlier in the inning.

Last year, New York won Games 4 and 5 of the World Series with a series of dramatic homers off Kim.

DETROIT -- Robert Fick homered twice and drove in five runs to help Detroit end a six-game losing streak.

Detroit won for just the second time in 12 games, and improved to 2-9 on a season-long 13-game homestand. Montreal lost its second in a row to drop below .500 at 31-32.

Adams (3-4) got 15 of his 18 outs on balls that never got past the infield dirt. The right-hander gave up one run and four singles, walked three and struck out two.

Dodgers 10, Devil Rays 5

Elsewhere

DODGERS: Right-hander Kevin Brown is scheduled to undergo back surgery today to repair an extruded disc in the nerve canal. Brown was injured last Wednesday playing with his son. He has been on the 15-day disabled list since May 27 with a right elbow sprain.

METS: Hitting coach Dave Engle was fired, becoming the first casualty of the team's poor offensive start. Engle held the position for one season plus the first 62 games of this year.

REDS: Ken Griffey Jr. wasn't in Cincinnati's starting lineup for the third straight game because of a strained right hamstring. Reds Manager Bob Boone said Griffey might be available as a pinch-hitter against the Texas Rangers, but that the earliest the outfielder would start a game would be Wednesday in the finale of the three-game series.
