TORONTO -- Alfonso Soriano hit a tiebreaking, two-run single in the ninth inning as the New York Yankees rallied for their fifth straight win, 7-5 Monday over the Toronto Blue Jays.

New York, a season-high 9 1/2 games ahead of second-place Boston in the AL East, rallied from a 5-2 deficit on Derek Jeter's RBI single in the seventh and Enrique Wilson's two-run double in the eighth off Paul Quantrill.

Billy Koch (2-5) loaded the bases in the ninth on two walks and a hit batter, then gave up the single to Soriano.

"That was a ball right down the plate for Soriano," Koch said. "I just missed my spots. When you've been as ineffective as I've been lately, you have to scratch your head."

Mark Wohlers (1-0) allowed one hit in two innings, and Ramiro Mendoza got two outs for his sixth save.

Burks went 3-for-4 with his 24th homer in the sixth inning off Gary Glover (4-2). Einar Diaz also homered for the Indians, who lead Minnesota by six games in the AL Central and Chicago by 8 1/2.
