Woodland survived an upset bid by Bloomfield and advanced to the semifinals of its own Woodland Tournament Monday night.

Woodland, seeded second, saw Bloomfield win the opener 15-8, but the Lady Cardinals outlasted the No. 7 seed with narrow 18-16 and 15-13 victories.

Dianna Lukefahr notched 11 kills for Woodland, while Sarah Booth had 10 service points and Desirae Bollinger turned in eight digs.

"We started out kind of slow and bounced back and played as a team," said Woodland coach Tammy Brock.

In Monday's other first-round game, No. 3 Meadow Heights defeated No. 6 Puxico 15-9, 13-15, 15-7.

In tonight's first-round games, No. 1 Leopold will play No. 8 Greenville at 6 p.m., followed by No. 3 Zalma against No. 6 Advance at 7. Bloomfield and Puxico will meet in consolation play at 8.

JV football

Chaffee 6, Hayti 6

Shawn Towderly scored on an 11-yard run with three minutes left in regulation as Chaffee's JV football team rallied to tie Hayti.

An overtime period was played but neither team scored.

Hayti had taken a 6-0 lead on a second-quarter touchdown.

Chaffee's JV will play at Sikeston on Monday.
