ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- Led by Leland Woelk, Cape Girardeau Central High's wrestling team had a solid showing in the St. Charles Tournament that concluded Saturday. Woelk was the Tigers' lone individual champion as they placed seventh out of 12 squads with 123 points. ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- Led by Leland Woelk, Cape Girardeau Central High's wrestling team had a solid showing in the St. Charles Tournament that concluded Saturday.

Woelk was the Tigers' lone individual champion as they placed seventh out of 12 squads with 123 points. Columbia Rock Bridge won the title with 211.5 points, followed by Lindbergh (185), Carl Junction (156) and Seckman (150.5).

"We're coming on," said Cape Central coach Josh Crowell. "We had a good tournament and we're definitely moving in the right direction."

Woelk defeated the state's fourth-ranked wrestler, Lindbergh's Ben Virtue, 5-3 in the 145-pound championship match.

"That was a huge win for Leland," Crowell said. "It was one of the most exciting matches of the night."

Also for the Tigers, O.J. Turner (189) placed second; Nick Harter (171) and Shannon Mungle (heavyweight) were both third; and Trevor Duncan (152) and Monroe Hicks (160) each finished fourth.
