The St. Louis Blues continued a season-long shakeup Thursday, trading veteran defenseman Eric Weinrich to Vancouver for 23-year-old defenseman Tomas Mojzis and a third-round draft choice.
The Blues assigned Mojzis to Peoria of the American Hockey League. He had one assist and 12 penalty minutes in seven games with the Canucks. In 37 games with Manitoba of the AHL, he had five goals, 13 assists and 52 penalty minutes.
The native of the Czech Republic was chosen by Toronto in the eighth round (246th overall) in the 2001 NHL draft.
Weinrich, 39, joins fellow defenseman Chris Pronger and forwards Doug Weight and Mike Sillinger as veterans the Blues have dealt as part of a rebuilding effort. After 25 straight seasons of making the playoffs, St. Louis is near the bottom of the NHL standings.
Weinrich had one goal, 16 assists and 44 penalty minutes in 59 games for the Blues. He is in his 15th season.
