It took the Saxony Lutheran baseball team four innings to score 15 runs on 15 hits to run-rule Risco 15-0 on Wednesday in Jackson, Mo.

David Weinhold went 3-for-3 with three RBI doubles for the Crusaders. He also pitched the full four innings, having allowed only hit with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Weinhold said he has been working on, “location, going where my ball is going, and working on my off-speeds.”

The Crusaders started the offensive onslaught with a four-run first inning. Owen Tarry hit an RBI single after Blake Gaebler scored on a passed ball to give the Crusaders the initial 2-0 lead. Weinhold then doubled in Tarry and later scored on a single by Reid Bengston to put Saxony Lutheran up 4-0.

Weinhold hit another RBI double in the second inning to highlight a five-run second inning for Saxony Lutheran. Bengston also hit an RBI single for the second consecutive inning and Tarry also drove in his second run of the game on a sacrifice fly. ‘

Weinhold hit his third RBI double of the game in the fourth inning to score Tarry to start a six-run rally to trigger the run rule. Tarry led off the inning being hit by pitch only to come back and ground into a fielder’s choice to score J Sparks for the 15th run.

Along with Weinhold, Bengston went 3-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Crusaders. Brayden Moore went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Tarry went 1-for-2 with three RBIs, and both James Hope and Issac Koenig drove in a run and scored as pinch hitters.

“We just played good baseball,” Weinhold said. “We saw the ball good and we hit good.”

With their second consecutive win, the Crusaders improved to 5-3 after starting the season with back-to-back losses. Saxony Lutheran will host St. Pius X at noon on Saturday, April 6.
