The Cape Central girls swimming team took first place in the City of Roses meet on Saturday, Jan. 27, at the SEMO Recreation Center. Addison Ringwald won the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.08) and earned state consideration. Isabella Pattengill won the 50-yard freestyle (25.63) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:56.07), earning state consideration for both events. Tommy Marriott and Lydia Cao finished first and second in the 1-meter diving event. Sydney Ringwald won the 100-yard freestyle (54.35) and earned state consideration. Notre Dame also finished in fourth place and will race against Cape Central on Tuesday.

__Cape Central falls to Vashon__

The Cape Central boys basketball team fell to Vashon 76-50 during the Vashon Winter Classic on Saturday in St. Louis. Jay Reynolds led the Tigers with 16 points, Marquel Murray added 14 points and Max Vogel chipped in 10 points. The Tigers were outshot 26-10 by the Wolverines, as they trailed 23-11 in the first quarter. The Tigers turned the ball over 14 times and allowed 15 offensive rebounds in the first half against the Wolverines, as they went to halftime down 47-20. The Wolverines extended their lead in the third quarter to 70-37 before pulling the starters entering the fourth quarter.

__Jackson host and wins JV Tournament__

Jackson hosted and won the SEMO Conference JV Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 27, in Jackson. Noah Turner (106), Will Bortner (113), Riley Penny (120), Sawyer Goodwin (138), John McIntyre (157), Charlie Eifert (190), and Grant Parker (215) took first place in their respective weight classes while Hunter Ferrell (175) and Rawley Evans (132) finished in second place for the Indians. Andre Aguilar (285), Ryan Black (165), and Branson Crum (125) took first place to lead Poplar Bluff to a third-place finish. Garrett Snider led Cape Central with a third-place finish in the 157-pound bracket. Dexter’s Paxton White (106) finished second and Kayden Hart (190) finished third. Quinton Wilkins Jr. (165) led Sikeston with a second-place finish. Kennett saw both Tristian Hatley (285) and Lavon Downey (157) place fourth while Fred Patterson (120) placed third in a division with three wrestlers.

__Varsity wrestling__

Notre Dame senior Charlie West won the 215-pound championship and Cape Central senior Davarious Nunley (175) finished in second place in the DeSoto Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 27, in DeSoto, Mo. Jackson placed third in the Kyle Thrasher Tournament, hosted by Francis Howell High School on Saturday, Jan. 27, in St. Charles, Mo. Brysen Wessell (215) placed 2nd to lead the Indians, Landon Vassalli (126) placed 3rd, and Graidy Rice (113) and Hayden Wessell (190) each placed fifth. The Jackson girls' wrestling team saw three combatants (Kayleigh Milam, Mollie Metzger, and Haley Sanders) finish in fourth place in the respective weight classes in the Seckman Tournament on Saturday.
