N LAST RACE: Polesitter Scott Sharp earned his first IRL victory of the season when leader Gil de Ferran ran out of fuel on the final lap of the Firestone Indy 225 at Nazareth Speedway on April 21.

Last year: HELIO CASTRONEVES AND FELLOW BRAZILIAN GIL DE FERRAN GAVE TEAM OWNER ROGER PENSKE A 1-2 FINISH AND LED A CART SWEEP OF THE TOP FIVE AT THE INDIANAPOLIS 500. THE VICTORY WAS PENSKE'S RECORD 11TH AT INDY. MICHAEL ANDRETTI, JIMMY VASSER AND ROOKIE BRUNO JUNQUEIRA ROUNDED OUT THE TOP FIVE, MAKING IT A TOUGH DAY FOR THE IRL. ELISEO SALAZAR FINISHED SEVENTH, THE BEST SHOWING BY AN IRL REGULAR.

N LAST RACE: Ryan Newman recorded his first career victory at The Winston despite qualifying in the 27th and final transfer spot. Newman became the second rookie driver, and first since Dale Earnhardt Jr. two years ago, to win NASCAR's all-star event.

Last year: JEFF BURTON PULLED AWAY FOR AN EASY VICTORY IN THE COCA-COLA 600 TO GIVE ROUSH RACING ITS FIRST WIN OF THE YEAR. BURTON, ALSO THE 1999 WINNER, LED THE FINAL 73 LAPS, OPENING A HUGE ADVANTAGE AND BEATING KEVIN HARVICK BY 3.190 SECONDS.

N LAST RACE: Points-leader Jason Keller recorded his third win in five races by taking the Stacker2 200 at Nazareth Speedway. The final 30 laps were run under caution after a violent two-car accident involving Jeff Purvis and defending race winner Greg Biffle.

Last year: Jeff Green held off charging Matt Kenseth, nipping him at the finish line to win the Carquest 300.

Last race: MICHAEL SCHUMACHER WON HIS FIRST AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX ON MAY 12 AFTER TEAMMATE RUBENS BARRICHELLO MOVED ASIDE ON THE VERY LAST STRAIGHT TO HAND HIM THE VICTORY. BARRICHELLO HAD BEEN IN CHARGE ALL AFTERNOON AFTER STARTING FROM THE POLE POSITION BUT THEN RELINQUISHED THE LEAD BECAUSE OF TEAM ORDERS DURING THE FINAL LAP.

N LAST YEAR: Michael Schumacher won his fifth Monaco Grand Prix after polesitter David Coulthard stalled at the start. Coulthard's stall allowed Schumacher to start alone from the front row of the 78-lap race. Barrichello finished second, 0.4 seconds behind.

N LAST EVENT: Kenny Bernstein took advantage of Larry Dixon's bucking car to win the Top Fuel finals at Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J. Gary Densham won the Funny Car category and Greg Anderson became the eighth different Pro Stock winner.

Last year: Bernstein raced to his 26th career Top Fuel victory, beating Larry Dixon in the Advance Auto Parts Nationals in Topeka, Kan. Tony Pedregon, Ron Krisher and Don Smith won their divisions.
