FENTON -- Vianney High's boys soccer team has one of its worst records in some time, but the Golden Griffins can never be counted out when it comes to the playoffs.

The Griffins proved to be too strong for Cape Girardeau Central Tuesday night as they posted a 3-0 victory in a Class 4A sectional game at the Anheuser-Busch Conference & Sports Centre.

Vianney moves on in the playoffs with a 12-9-5 record while Cape Central finishes its season at 13-11-3.

Nick Wilson scored twice and Rory Leach added a goal for Vianney, which led 2-0 at halftime. Rico Lange made three saves to post the shutout."They were a good team, the better team tonight," said Cape Central coach Tom Doyle. "We had our chances. We hit the crossbar one time and we hit the near post one time." I was pleased with the effort and the way we played. Overall, I thought we had a good season. We won some big matches late in the year."
