STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- St. Vincent's girls basketball team suffered its first loss of the year, a 38-29 defensive struggle, in the second round of Valle's round-robin tournament Wednesday night.

The Squaws managed only 10 points through the first three quarters, but managed to make the game respectable, outscoring Valle 19-10 in the fourth quarter.

Danielle Schremp scored eight points to lead the Squaws, who dropped to 2-1.

MURPHYSBORO, Ill. -- Cape Central's wrestling team took one on the chin in a pounding by Murphysboro in its season opener on Tuesday.

"It was definitely an eye-opener for our kids," said Cape Central coach Josh Crowell. "It shows us where we are at this stage of the season and what we need to work on."

The Tigers could manage only two wins; Justin Ingram's decision in the 125-pound class and Trever Duncan's pin in the 160-pound class.

Cape Central's ninth-grade team improved to 3-0 with a rout over Perryville Wednesday.
