Two Southeast Missouri State gymnasts will continue their seasons at the South Central Regional in Champaign, Ill., on April 7.
Sophomore Megan Fosnow and junior Taylor Westrick were among the competitors the NCAA announced in its regional field Monday. Fosnow will represent the Redhawks in the all-around, while Westrick will compete in the balance beam.
"This is a great opportunity for the two of them," Southeast coach Kristi Ewasko said. "Both Taylor and Megan improved as the year went on. It's exciting to see those two representing this team at the regional competition."
Fosnow, a first-time regional qualifier, has a regional qualifying score of 38.200. She competed in the all-around in Southeast's last nine meets and scored 38.300 or higher four times.
Fosnow had a breakout effort against then-No. 16 Auburn on March 9. She scored a career-high 39.125 to finish second in the competition.
Westrick is a regional qualifier for the second consecutive season. She successfully defended her balance beam title at the Midwest Independent Conference Championships with a career-high 9.900 on Saturday.
Westrick scored 9.800 or higher on beam in each of her last eight meets and ranks 48th nationally with a regional qualifying score of 9.840.
The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors who are not on an advancing team from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships April 20 to 22 in Duluth, Ga.
In addition, the event winners at each regional will advance to the national championships if they are not part of a qualifying team or an all-around qualifier.
Softball
Southeast announced Monday that it has addressed issues relating to the playing conditions at the university's softball complex.
The announcement said Southeast has a plan in place to ensure the safety of the facility for student-athletes.
Rain and what the university termed "unforeseeable circumstances" made the field unplayable for Saturday's scheduled doubleheader against SIU Edwardsville. Southeast and SIUE did play two games on the field Sunday.
The Redhawks host Ohio Valley Conference leader Tennessee-Martin at 5 p.m. Thursday.
