Andrew Williams scored through the air and on the ground, but it wasn't enough for Central after a long road trip.
The Tigers dropped to 0-3 with their 43-25 loss at Obion County, Tenn., on Friday night.
"We played excellent the first half," Central coach Rich Payne said. "We did a lot of things right. When they scored late in the first half, with 12 seconds left, it changed momentum on us."
Williams scored on a quarterback sneak and tossed a scoring pass to Zach Boerboom. Keilon Moore added a rushing touchdown for the Tigers. Matt Ponder went 2 for 2 on extra-point attempts.
"We mixed it up well," Payne said of his team's offense. "We threw the ball on play-action stuff and drop-back stuff. We ran the ball and ran our package. We were doing a nice job with it, controlling the contest. As the game went along, we didn't get away from it, we turned the ball over."
Five turnovers buried the Tigers' hopes for their first win. Central clung to a 17-16 lead at halftime but got outscored 27-8 after the intermission.
"Those turnovers are a big thing," Payne said. "We had zero mistakes in the first half. In the second half, we had a lot."
Obion County's quarterback created headaches for the Tigers.
"He probably accounted for 95 percent of their offense," Payne said. "He throws the ball OK, but running the ball, he's pretty good."
The schedule fails to get easier in Week 4 when the Tigers welcome Farmington to Houck Stadium. The Black Knights received votes in the latest Class 4 state poll.
