ST. LOUIS -- Starting right tackle Kyle Turley will miss the season after he was placed on injured reserve Saturday by the St. Louis Rams.

Linebacker Jeremy Loyd also was placed on injured reserve.

Turley reinjured his surgically repaired back in late July and left training camp Aug. 1. Rams coach Mike Martz previously said it would take weeks to know Turley's prognosis.

His loss is the latest in a series of offensive line problem for the Rams, who are without star left tackle Orlando Pace, who is holding out. Backup tackle Grant Williams has been bothered by an ankle injury, and St. Louis cut center Dave Wohlabaugh because of a hip injury.

Two veterans, Chris Dishman and Tom Nutten, were lured out of retirement.

Turley started every game in 2003 after joining the team in an offseason trade with the New Orleans Saints. He has been one of the steadiest offensive linemen in the NFL throughout his six seasons.

Loyd tore his left pectoral muscle against the Washington Redskins on Friday. Loyd played 10 games for the Rams as a rookie in 2003, making 18 special teams tackles.

The Rams also released tight end Nick Burley, wide receiver Michael Coleman, cornerbacks Robert Cromartie and Corey Yates, quarterback Russ Michna, and defensive tackle Justin Montgomery.

The Rams have until Tuesday to release one more player to reach the limit of 65.
