MOBERLY, Mo. — The Three Rivers College men’s and women’s basketball teams had a mixed performance Saturday night against the Moberly Area Greyhounds, with the women winning 73-59 and the men losing 91-53.
Monday night, the Three Rivers women returned home and rolled past Williams Baptist 101-29.
At Moberly Saturday, the Lady Raiders (17-8, 4-2 Region 16) led 16-8 after the opening period and 36-24 at the intermission before pushing their lead to 53-38 by the beginning of the fourth quarter.
Three Rivers shot 45% (26-for-58) from the field, including 54% (21-for-39) inside the 3-point line, and collected 35 rebounds on the night.
Laylah Reese scored 18 points to lead a trio of Lady Raiders in double figures, while Da’Kariya Jackson added 16 and Mya Davidson had 15. Davidson added four steals on the night, while Reese had three. Alexia Weaver had four assists.
Monday night, Three Rivers led 25-4 after the opening period and extended its lead to 52-15 by the intermission. The Lady Raiders led 72-22 after three.
Three Rivers limited Williams Baptist to just 14% shooting (6-for-43) from the field and 11 percent shooting behind the line (2-for-18). The Lady Raiders also forced 35 turnovers and held a 51-29 edge on the boards.
Reese scored a game-high 21 points for Three Rivers, while Bramyia Johnson added 1, Kaleigh Thompson had 15 and Amiya Johnson finished with 14. Thompson added nine rebounds and Jackson had nine assists.
It was a different story in Saturday’s men’s game, as the Raiders (11-12, 2-4) fell into an early hole and could not recover.
Moberly (17-5, 5-2) took a 58-32 lead to the locker room and never let up as it handed Three Rivers its worst loss of the season.
The Raiders connected on just under 30% of their shots (17-for-57) and were outrebounded 56-37 while committing 24 turnovers and making less than half (14-for-29) of their free throws.
Caleb Young led Three Rivers with 14 points off the bench, while Anthony Sellars added seven in the loss. Zyier Beverly added nine rebounds and three steals in the loss.
Freddie Cooper had 21 points to lead the Greyhounds, while Akili Evans added 19 points and 13 rebounds.
The Raiders and Lady Raiders are both back in Saturday at home against State Fair. The women’s game tips off at 5 p.m., while the men tip off at 7 p.m.
