KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Top-seed Bryan North won his opening-round match in the 99th Missouri Amateur Golf Championship 3 and 2 over Joey Parr on Thursday, but the tournament's No. 2 seed didn't fare nearly as well.

In the upset of the day, Jason Clamors, seeded 63rd in a field of 64, cruised past second-seed Jeff Zimmerman 7 and 6 at Blue Hills County Club.

Former University of Missouri quarterback Kirk Farmer won his match 3 and 2 over Nick Wilson, while 1994 Missouri Amateur champ Tyler Shelton advanced with a 2-up win over Parker Labarge.

Play was halted for nearly three hours because of rain on the first day of match play.

In a strange twist to the delay, Peter Krsnich teed off after play resumed, then got into a golf cart to go after his ball. But he was assessed a penalty because players aren't allowed to use a cart during match play.

Krsnich, who lost his match to Steven Holtgrieve 2 and 1, said he rode in the cart in case it started raining again because he didn't have an umbrella.

The field of 32 that advanced Thursday will be pared to eight by the end of today's two rounds.
