Central (17-7) stayed with the Blue Jays for the opening quarter, trailing only 19-13. In the second quarter Charleston flexed its muscles and outscored the Tigers by 10 to open up a 44-28 halftime lead.

Jake Knepp led Central with 19 points and Ryan Delph had 18.

Charleston (20-2) got 19 points from Joshua Strayhorn, 18 from Ashton Farmer, 15 from Marcus Biles and 10 from Trentez Lane.

Junior guard Mark Dannenmueller led four players into double figures as Scott City improved to 18-4 with a home victory.

Dannenmueller scored 19 points, including three 3-pointers. Andy Beck added 14, Tyler Ward had 13 and Jeremy Schlosser scored 10.

Ward had 10 rebounds while Beck and Mark Johnston each had eight. Schlosser doled out five assists and Steve Sanford had four.

Leopold set up a showdown in the Mississippi Valley Conference by turning back visiting Zalma.

The Wildcats (11-10, 5-0) play second-place Delta, which is 5-1, on Friday night.

Lucas Horrell and Kelly Stause paced Leopold with 19 and 17 points, respectively. Each had a pair of 3-pointers.

For Zalma, David Hovis scored 21 points before fouling out in the final minute.

Leopold led 45-30 heading into the final period.

A pair of Meadow Heights sophomores combined for 49 points, but it was senior Brian Thompson who hit the game-winner, connecting on a 3-point shot with 1.8 seconds left to break a deadlock and give the Panthers a road victory.

Sophomores Anthony Bollinger and Terry Wagner scored 28 and 21 points, respectively. Meadow Heights (12-9), which tied a state record with 24 3-pointers on Monday, trailed 37-31 at halftime. The Panthers took a 54-53 lead into the fourth quarter.
