Jackson (0-1) at Parkway South (0-1)

Last week: Riverview Gardens 32, Jackson 31; St. Louis University High School 20, Parkway South 10.

Last year: These two teams did not meet in 2007.

Outlook: Parkway South, a Class 6 school that in 2007 went 4-6, including one win by forfeit, played well last week in a 20-10 loss to St. Louis University High School. The Patriots rely on running the football. Returning tailback Kevon McGrew, who rushed for 1,456 yards on 243 carries last year, had a strong game in Week 1 with 25 carries for 156 yards. Jackson's secondary will be a little different this week. Jake Wren won't play after leaving the game last week with a groin injury. Sophomore Ethan Ruch (5-10, 165 pounds) will replace him. Adam Zweigart started in the secondary last week, but will not this week. Senior Blake Jones (5-10, 160), junior Tommy Selsor (5-11, 160) and senior Mitchell McCulley (6-0, 175) will start in the secondary with Ruch. Junior Henry Williams (6-4, 245) will play defensive end in place of Kevin Pridemore. Hitt said Pridemore won't start because of a private matter. Hitt said he does not know how long Pridemore will be out.

New Madrid C.C. (0-1) at Central (0-1)

Last week: Parkway North 42, Central 6; Poplar Bluff 26, New Madrid County 16.

Last year's meeting: New Madrid County 61, Central 16.

Outlook: Central played its first game under head coach Rich Payne last week. The defense struggled, allowing 10.1 yards per rush (253 yards on 25 rushes) and 23.2 yards per pass (116 yards on five attempts). New Madrid brings in a capable offense after gaining 386 yards against Poplar Bluff. The Eagles hurt themselves with nine fumbles — three lost — and an interception. NMCC's Kony Ealy is a handful on offense and defense. The 6-foot-6 junior tight end caught three balls for 62 yards and a touchdown, while at defensive end he made eight tackles, including two sacks. New Madrid rushed 49 times last week for 260 yards. Five different runners carried. New Madrid's defense held the Mules to just 21 yards in the first half. Cape Central ran the ball fairly well with two rushers with more than 80 yards: Brandon Pickens had 82 on five carriers and Cantrell Andrews with 81 yards on 16 carries. Central gave up touchdowns of 79, 74 and 53 yards. Payne said there will be no changes in his lineup and his team is healthy.

Chaffee (1-0) at Fulton County, Ky. (0-1)

Last week: Chaffee 36, Grandview 8; Hopkins County Central 63, Fulton County 0

Last year's meeting: The two teams did not meet last year.

Outlook: Charlie Vickery's team makes the 100-mile trip to face Fulton County, Ky., which lost its opener. Vickery said Fulton County's opening foe was a Class 4A team ranked 11th in one Kentucky poll. The Pilots were just 2-9 last year, giving up 50 or more points seven times and holding just one foe below 30 points. The Red Devils were efficient on offense in the opener at Grandview. Collin Dannenmueller had 94 yards rushing and two touchdowns, while quarterback Aaron Horrell added 74 yards rushing and 62 yards passing on 7 of 9 completions. The Red Devils defense had five sacks, three interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

Scott City (1-0) at Portageville (0-1)

Last week: Scott City 14, Malden 6; Mountain View Liberty 53, Portageville 6.

Last year's meeting: Scott City 32, Portageville 0.

Outlook: Scott City looks to start its 2008 campaign 2-0 tonight. Scott City struggled offensively in Week 1 as it was unable to earn its first down until 3 minutes, 30 seconds remained in the second quarter. The Rams scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter for the comeback victory. When the offense did get rolling, Jake Campbell rushed 14 times for 94 yards. Scott City coach Ronnie Jones said the main reason his team struggled moving the ball was because he had an offensive guard and offensive tackle sit out for disciplinary reasons. Jones said the two linemen would play this week. The defense stepped up and kept the Rams in the game with three interceptions and r a fumble recovery.

Perryville (1-0) at DeSoto (0-1)

Last week: Perryville 23, Pacific 2; Fox 22, DeSoto 6.

Last year's meeting: Perryville 22, De Soto 7.

Outlook: Perryville looks to improve to 2-0 under new head coach Jim May after posting a 21-point win over Pacific in Week 1. Quarterback Josh Perreault led Perryville with 101 yards on six carries. DeSoto used the ground and the air in its Week 1 loss to Fox. Quarterback Neal Finch completed 5 of 12 passes for 78 yards and was intercepted three times. Three different backs rushed 27 times for 73 yards. The DeSoto defense yielded 286 yards on 40 carries.

St. Vincent (1-0) at Park Hills Central (0-1)

Last week: St. Vincent 10, Caruthersville 7; Maplewood 34, Park Hills Central 7.

Last year's meeting: Park Hills Central 12, St. Vincent 3.

Outlook: St. Vincent's Dylan Moll rushed for 64 yards on 22 carries and C.J. Pavlosky had 60 yards on 15 carries. Quarterback Darin Yamnitz was 4-for-14 passing for 82 yards. St. Vincent's first TD was set up by a snap over the punter's head, and Aaron Dzik's 25-yard field goal was the difference in the 10-7 win against Caruthersville. A key for St. Vincent is to stop Park Hills running back Tony Martin, who rushed 26 times for 243 yards last week against Maplewood.
