Game times are 7:30 p.m. unless noted
PORTAGEVILLE at SCOTT CITY
Scott City last week: Malden 19, Scott City 13. Brad Glenn had 16 carries for 131 yards.
Portageville last week: 39-20 loss to Gosnell, Ark.
Last year: 27-14, Scott City
Comments: "We're going to have to throw the ball a little bit better," Scott City coach Stephen O'Brien said. "And our defense has to get better at shutting down the run. Portageville played a very good Gosnell team. They have a big line and come off the ball real well. We'll have to play two halves like we did the second half of the Malden game."
STE. GEN at PERRYVILLE (7 p.m.)
Perryville last week: Waynesville 20, Perryville 14. Perryville, which lost 38-0 to Waynesville last year, allowed a touchdown with 30 seconds left in the game. Jessie Whistler ran for 80 yards on 19 carries and Perryville commited only one penalty.
Ste. Genevieve last week: Ste. Genevieve 39, Valle Catholic 6.
Last year: Ste. Genevieve 27, Perryville 14. The game was tied at 14 going into the fourth quarter.
Comments: "Offensively, we need to execute," Perryville coach Lance Bell said. "We have to stay on our blocks, drive our feet and put some points on the board."
CHARLESTON at SIKESTON
Charleston last week: Charleston 35, Kennett 32. The Bluejays dominated and led 35-17, but allowed two late touchdowns. Quarterback Dontay Clark ran for 213 yards, but the Bluejays turned the ball over three times inside Kennett's 25-yard line.
Sikeston last week: Jackson 34, Sikeston 7. Sikeston's defense wasn't as bad as the score would indicate but turnovers deep in their own territory proved costly.
Last year: Sikeston 33, Charleston 14
Comments: They're big up front and we're a bit faster than what they are," Charleston coach Brent Anderson said. "I think if we can get some creases, our speed will come into play. But Sikeston's front four is the best we'll see all year."
CHAFFEE at FREDERICKTOWN
Chaffee last week: Chaffee 16, Grandview 8. Jeremy Hahn had 29 carries for 175 yards and two touchdowns.
Fredericktown last week: Crystal City 18, Fredericktown 14. A surprise loss for the Blackcats considering they beat the Hornets 49-18 last year.
Last year: Fredericktown 39, Chaffee 6
Comments: "We had the first-game jitters last week, but I found out we were in better shape than what I thought," Chaffee coach Allan Horrell said. "Fredericktown is much larger up front and those guys lean on you for 48 minutes and they're going to wear you down. I'm stressing that we have to play hard for 48 minutes."
BRENTWOOD at ST. VINCENT (7 p.m.)
St. Vincent last week: Park Hills 23, St. Vincent 0. Chris Meyer ended up with 15 tackles (11 solos) and the special teams looked solid, but offensively the young Indians struggled with 10 penalties.
Brentwood last week: North Callaway 35, Brentwood 0. Brentwood had only 71 yards of total offense -- including no passing yards -- and got into North Callaway's territory only once. North Callaway is ranked fourth in Class 2A.
Last year: St. Vincent 44, Brentwood 6.
Comments: "They're big up front and try to wall people off and hide backs behind the line and pick up some yards," St. Vincent coach Keith Winkler said. "We'll have to be physical. We can't create mistakes. If we don't make those mistakes that we made last week, I think we'll be all right."
