In a high-scoring baseball affair, Central held on with the aid of a nine-run fifth inning to beat visiting Farmington 16-14 Monday.

The Tigers (11-8) jumped in front 4-0 after the second inning, before allowing five runs in the top of the fourth. Central regained the lead in with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, before allowing five more runs in the fifth to go down 10-6.

Aaron Dohogne started Central's fifth-inning rally with a leadoff double. Ben Johnson, who had just entered the game to pitch, hit a two-run home run to start the scoring. Seth Hudson and Chris Conrad followed with back-to-back singles and the flood gates opened.

Farmington answered with four runs in the sixth, but Hudson pitched a scoreless seventh to secure the victory. Johnson picked up the win with an inning of work, with Hudson picking up the save. Central's starter was John Thies.

"The one thing you can get from this is you did get the win," Central coach Steve Williams said of the slugfest.

The teams combined for 29 hits. Conrad had three of the Tigers' 14 hits. Hudson, Dohogne, Johnson and Colin Schermann added two hits apiece.

Despite a solid hitting day, Williams said he was unhappy with his team's three errors and inconsistent pitching.

"We just have to get better," he said. "We still have to put it all together on the same day."

Notre Dame 13, NMCC 1

Notre Dame improved to 7-1 in SEMO Conference play with a six-inning win on the road over New Madrid County Central.

Jeff Brosey allowed one hit in five innings to pick up his second win.

The Bulldogs (10-3) led 5-1 after five innings before scoring eight in the sixth inning. Lee Essner provided the biggest blow in the inning with a three-run home run. Essner, Blake Urhahn and Kyle Diveley had two hits apiece for Notre Dame.

Notre Dame's junior varsity won 6-5 in a game cut short by darkness.

The Bulldogs host Sikeston today in a key conference game.

Jackson 6, Kelly 1

Austin McDowell struck out eight and allowed five hits in a complete-game five-hitter on the road.

McDowell allowed only one walk, as he made the Indians' 2-1 lead stand up until the top of the seventh when Jackson added four insurance runs. Jason Owen, Brandon Gendron and Tyler Beussink had two hits apiece for Jackson (6-8).

Jackson coach Sam Sides said he was worried his team might fall prey to another late-inning collapse before the four-run seventh.

"I could see it coming again," he said. "This time it worked the other way around."

Scott City 10, Woodland 8

Jason Schenimann hit a two-run home run as Scott City edged Woodland at home for the Rams' first win of the season.

Tyler Ward got the win for the Rams (1-9) as he worked five innings and gave up six earned runs while striking out seven.

Schenimann finished 3-for-4. Chris Pequeno went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs while Andy Stephens went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Also having two hits for the Rams were Mark Johnston and Kyle Curry.

Alex VanGennip was 2-for-3 for Woodland (5-8), including a homer. Luke Johnson went 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBIs. Anthony Grojean took the loss as he struck out 10.

Sikeston 13, Chaffee 1

Chaffee managed only two hits against Sikeston pitching and fell at home.

Sam Burnett had a double and an RBI for the Red Devils (6-7).

Lance Rhodes had 10 strikeouts and a two-run homer for Sikeston (14-1, 7-0 SEMO Conference).

Oak Ridge 9, Scott County Central 1

Aaron Eisenhauer had two home runs and three RBIs to help Oak Ridge win on the road.

The Blue Jays (3-6) scored in each inning except the second, and held the Braves scoreless until the bottom of the seventh.

Austin Morrison pitched a complete game to pick up his first win. Morrison struck out eight, allowed three hits and walked three. Zach Ruesler added two hits and an RBI for Oak Ridge.

GIRLS SOCCER

Notre Dame 3, Central 0

Notre Dame held Central to just six shots on goal and picked up its sixth shutout in a row along with its eighth consecutive victory.

Lauren Mehner scored two goals for Notre Dame (11-1-1) and Kristen Boos scored the other. Sierra Ellis had two assists and Sara Berkbigler added one.

Katie Palmer was in goal for the Bulldogs to record her 10th shutout of the season.

Amanda Dirnberger went down with an ankle injury early in the game and was held out for precautionary reasons. Ellis also left the game with about 15 minutes left in the second half with a shoulder injury. Worley said both players should be fine.

Perryville 4, Windsor 0

Christina Schremp scored two goals and Perryville slopped through an inch of rain to defeat Windsor on the road.

Jenna Schuessler and Amber Hacker each scored a goal. Ashley Riney had two assists and Amber Crites and Hacker each had an assist.

Kate Lowry was in goal for her fifth shutout of the season. Perryville (8-5-2) outshot Windsor 37-3.

Perryville's JV won 5-0 in a half.

SOFTBALL

Delta 40, Charleston 0

Rebecca Cook had three hits and a grand slam, and Tiffany Johnson and Sarah M. Cook each had four hits as Delta won in three innings at home.

Jess Livingston added three hits and Jenny Dannenmueller and Jessica Coomer had two hits apiece for Delta (7-2). The Bobcats pounded out 23 hits, with Rebecca Cook picking up her fifth win on the mound.

Leopold 13, Scott City 7

Lorie Vandermierden hit a three-run homer to keep Leopold perfect as it defeated visiting Scott City.

Courtney Wesbecher went 3-for-3 and Becky Seiler went 2-for-4 with an RBI triple for Leopold (11-0). Tasha Thiele and Wendy Vandeven each went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Vandermierden finished 2-for-4.

Mary Beth Bohnsack inked her seventh win in a row, pitching all seven innings with two walks and a strikeout.

Oak Ridge 14, Scott County Central 0

Katie Hemmann went 3-for-4 with a triple and two doubles to help Oak Ridge win in five innings on the road.

Laura Glueck pitched all five innings for the win, and went 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Chelsey Felper added three hits, and Mindy Ruch and Melinda Schoen had two hits apiece for Oak Ridge (5-5).

GOLF

Sikeston Invitational

Central finished right behind Poplar Bluff for second place in the 14-team Sikeston Invitational. The Tigers scored 296 to the Mules' 293.

Central had a strong day with all four scorers below 80. Todd Obergoenner shot a 2-under 69, and defeated E. C. Atchison of Sikeston on the third hole of the playoff for the individual title. Blake Driskell (73), Ty Gramling (76) and Tyson Seabaugh (78) rounded out Central's top four.

Jackson finished fourth, with Blake McDowell and Matt Litzelfelner both shooting 76. Eric Fraley shot an 81 and Chad Reiminger and Gabe Sauer shot 82 for Jackson.

Notre Dame was 10th. Will Lindman had the Bulldogs' top score with an 83. John Blattel (84), Travis Siebert (84) and Adam Fenwick (91) rounded out Notre Dame's top four.

TRACK & FIELD

Chaffee Meet

Chaffee's Jennifer Vandeven and Scott City's Loren Groves once again dominated their events at the Chaffee meet.

Groves helped the Rams win the girls division with wins in the shot put, discus, 100 and 300 hurdles. Christy and Angie Laxton did their part for the Rams, with Christy taking the 1,600 and 800 and Angie winning the 3,200. Both Laxton sisters broke the school record in the 1,600, which they just set at the SEMO South Conference meet, and Groves once again broke her record in the discus. Vandeven won the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes.

Jeremy Schlosser won the long jump and 400 to help Scott City's boys finish second, behind Valle Catholic. Chaffee's Nick Powderly won the triple jump, and Kelly got wins from Nathan Lewer (high jump) and Tyson Glazer (100).

OTHER EVENTS

Central's eighth and ninth grade track teams competed in the Sikeston Relays. The following competitors placed first in their respective events:

Eighth grade -- Tyler Terry, Adrien Cox, Kevin Schenkelberg (Long jump); Matt Willingham, Josh Stewart, Bobby Koeppel (Pole vault).

Ninth grade -- Darrus Gerlach, Eddie Glenn, Beau Jordan, Garrett Ozbun (4x400 relay); Tanner Rust, Lance Atenthal, Clayton Hill); Jarod Thomas, Gerlach, Kinglsley Ehie (High jump); Drew Elizalde, Hill, Shane Sprouse (Shot put); Elizalde, Hill, Sprouse (Discus).
