ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Cape Central's football team ended a three-game losing streak Saturday, knocking off Ritenour High 17-6 despite wet, sloppy conditions on the road. ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Cape Central's football team ended a three-game losing streak Saturday, knocking off Ritenour High 17-6 despite wet, sloppy conditions on the road.

The Tigers led 17-0 at halftime and the Huskies scored a late touchdown.

Central got on the board in the first quarter when Marcus Klund -- who also had a fumble recovery and interception in the first quarter -- scored from 3 yards out.

In the second quarter, Chris Jones nailed a 35-yard field goal to put the Tigers ahead 10-0.

A few minutes later, after a blocked punt by Jeremiah Dukes, Monroe Hicks scored his fourth rushing touchdown of the season, this time from 5 yards out.

Hicks and Klund combined to rush for 95 yards in a game that was won with turnovers and field position.

Central won the turnover battle 3-0.

NORTH COUNTY INVITATIONAL

PARK HILLS, Mo. -- Kelly's boys featured seven medalists as they finished second overall at the North County Invitational Saturday at Mineral Area College.

Kelly, led by a sixth-place finish by Adam Lofton, scored 45 points to finish runner-up to Farmington (22). Viburnum (93) placed third, and was followed by Notre Dame (105), Meadow Heights (169), North County (189) and Oak Ridge (204).

Lofton clocked 18 minutes, five seconds on the 3.1-mile course. The Hawks, who also saw Ashley Hahn and Adam Daughhetee finish in the top eight, placed first in the 1A-2A school division.

Farmington also won the three-team girls varsity race with 28 points. Notre Dame was second with 68 points and Kelly had a 101 total.

JEFFERSON CO. CONFERENCE MEET

FESTUS, Mo. -- Perryville's Kent Hadler posted a 12-second victory at the Jefferson County Conference meet.

Hadler, who won in a time of 17:31, was one of four Pirates to make all-conference. Also earning the honor were Tim Chitwood (4th), Curt Brewer (11th) and Brian Schlichting (14th).

Perryville placed third in the team standings with 47 points. Festus won with 41 points with Herculaneum, 43, a close second.

Herculaneum won the girls race with Perryville finishing fifth. Hannah Steffens placed 13th for the Lady Pirates to make all-conference.
