Three Southeast Missouri State soccer players have earned all-Ohio Valley Conference honors as voted on by the league's coaches and sports information directors.

Freshman defender Hayley Abbott made the all-OVC first team, with junior forward Ashley Runion on the second team and freshman forward Bobbi Jo Schlick on the all-newcomer squad.

Abbott was instrumental in leading a Southeast defense that allowed only 16 goals, including just six in OVC play. Both figures rank second in the league. She rarely left the field, leading the Redhawks in minutes played.

Abbott also contributed on the offensive end with two goals and one assist for five points.

Runion, the 2007 OVC freshman of the year, earned her second spot on the all-conference second team. She had four goals and three assists to rank 10th in the league with 11 points.

Runion, who scored two game-winning goals, leads the OVC in shots with 50.

Schlick, a Jackson High School product, had an impressive rookie season. She led Southeast with six goals, which ranks tied for third in the OVC. Her 13 points are tied for fourth in the league.

Schlick had four game-winning goals, the second-most in the conference. She is third in the OVC with 41 shots.

Davis academic all-district

Southeast senior volleyball player Molly Davis has been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first team for the second straight year.

Davis now becomes eligible for Academic All-America consideration after she earned third-team honors a year ago.

Davis, who has a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average in sports management, leads the OVC and ranks sixth nationally in digs. She is Southeast's career record-holder in digs.

Gannon to be honored

Southeast associate director of athletics Cindy Gannon will be inducted into the De Soto High School Athletics Hall of Fame today.

Gannon, a 1980 De Soto graduate, will be honored during a special reception in the De Soto High School commons area at 5:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend the induction ceremonies, which will be followed by a Veterans Day program at 7 p.m.

Gannon, a 1985 Southeast graduate, was 366-211 with eight OVC titles in 16 years as Southeast's volleyball coach.
