Third place twice over for Kinder

The Central sophomore broke two school records en route to a pair of thirds at the state meet. ~ Southeast Missourian

Central sophomore Hannah Kinder placed third in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events Saturday at the MSHSAA girls swimming and diving meet at the St. Peters Rec-Plex in St. Peters, Mo.

Kinder finished the 50-yard freestyle event in 24.34 seconds, an improvement of about six-tenths of a second from her preliminary time on Friday. Blue Springs freshman Tarin Corwin won the race in 23.75, and Marisa Rodriguez of Lafayette was second.

Kinder shaved more than a second of her preliminary time in the 100 free with a 53.21 finish. Corwin won with a time of 51.83, and Rodriguez again was second.

On Friday, Kinder had qualified for the finals Friday with a sixth-best time in the 50 freestyle preliminary and a seventh-best time in the 100 freestyle preliminary.

As the Tigers' lone state competitor, Kinder scored 32 points to earn Central 16th place in the team standings.

Kinder also set school records in both events, breaking marks set by Grace Freeman that had stood since 1999.

"Hannah had a great meet. It was awesome, so exciting," Central coach Dayna Powell said. "She has just come so far in the last year."
