1. JACKSON (4-1, 35 points): The Jackson Indians are now the unanimous No. 1 in our poll after their drubbing of rival Central Friday night. The true battle for No. 1 will be decided this week, however, when Sikeston travels to the The Pit in Jackson on Friday night. Sikeston's defense has been stout but susceptible to the big play while Jackson's offense is capable of the big play but susceptible to turnovers.
2. SIKESTON (5-0, 28 points): The Bulldogs still are undefeated, but a 22-21 win over Poplar Bluff on Friday probably wasn't the response they wanted after a seven-point win over Farmington the week before. Those performances quickly would be forgotten with a win over Jackson on Friday.
3. CARUTHERSVILLE (4-1, 21 points): The Tigers were the unanimous pick for the No. 3 spot by our votes after another lopsided victory, this time a 42-0 rout of New Madrid County Central on Friday. Caruthersville has a bye week before facing Kennett on Oct. 11.
4. CENTRAL (1-4, 9 points): Central maintained it's No. 4 spot in the rankings but dropped on more than one voter's ballot after dropping four of five games to start the season. The Tigers will have an opportunity to build some momentum with Farmington visiting this week.
5. CHAFFEE (5-0, 7 points): The Red Devils remained undefeated with an impressive and poised win over rival Scott City. Chaffee will travel to East Prairie on Friday night receiving what should be its biggest challenge against Malden the following week. The Green Wave have dropped only one game so far this season, to No. 3 Caruthersville, and received two votes in the poll this week.
