The Ford & Sons Cape Girardeau Senior American Legion Post 63 baseball team split two games at home Saturday.
Cape lost to Manchester (Mo.) 6-1 in eight innings but came back to beat Paragould (Ark.) 8-6 as part of the inaugural Ford & Sons Showcase at Central High School.
Jesse Schott's second home run of the season accounted for Cape's lone run against Manchester. Schott went 2 for 2.
The squads were tied 1-1 through the regulation seven innings before Manchester scored five times in the top of eighth.
Travis Smith allowed just one run over seven innings before Luke Hinkebein took the loss.
Alex Davie pitched 6 2/3 innings for the victory against Paragould. Andrew Williams recorded the final out for a save.
Trey Gardner had a triple and double to lead Cape (5-3) offensively.
Paragould beat Manchester 5-2 in Saturday's other Showcase game.
The Showcase will conclude with four games today. Paragould plays Sikeston (Mo.) at 11 a.m., followed by Evansville (Ind.) vs. Sikeston at 1 p.m., Evansville vs. Marion (Ark.) at 3 p.m. and Cape vs. Marion at 5 p.m.
The Jackson Senior Babe Ruth baseball team split a doubleheader Friday against host New Madrid in Portageville.
Jackson captured the opener 8-4. Ross Moldenhauer went 3 for 4 with two doubles. Josh Douglas added two hits.
Moldenhauer pitched 4 1/3 innings for the win. Colby Brown allowed just one run over the final 2 2/3 innings.
Jackson dropped the nightcap 14-13 in 10 innings. Marc Rivas and Heath Pobst both had three hits. Alex Green suffered the loss.
The Scott County Junior American Legion baseball team swept a doubleheader from visiting Sikeston on Saturday, 9-8 and 13-12. Both games were won in walk-off fashion.
Trent Pobst delivered a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of seventh inning of the opener to score Lane Henson.
Pobst, Henson and Zach Carlyle all had two hits. Zane Eggimann was the winning pitcher.
Scott County (2-2) won the nightcap in six innings due to a time limit.
Henson scored the winning run on an error by the catcher in the bottom of the sixth. He stole second and came all the way home when the throw went into the outfield.
Carlyle had three hits, while Henson and Jordan Kinder added two apiece. Kinder delivered three RBIs. Tyler Rogers was the winner.
