The Cape Girardeau Post 63 Senior American Legion baseball team split its two games Sunday to finish in second place at the Metropolis, Ill., Invitational.
Blake Smith went 4 for 5 with three RBIs, while Dustin Crowden went 3 for 4 with three RBIs in Post 63's 10-4 win over Charleston, Mo.
Andrew Williams earned the win on the mound with a complete game and added three hits at the plate.
Logan Morris went 3 for 4 with two RBIs in Post 63's 5-4 loss to Belleville, Ill., which scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win it.
Post 63 beat Metropolis 6-5 and Evansville, Ill., 11-0 in Saturday's action.
Tyler Glidewell earned the win against Metropolis and added four RBIs against Evansville.
Skylar Cobb picked up the win with seven strikeouts over five innings, and Crowden blasted a two-run homer against Evansville.
The Cape Girardeau Post 63 Junior American Legion baseball team went 2-1 Sunday to finish second out of 10 squads at the Draffenville, Ky., tournament.
Cape (10-6) lost to Bowling Green, Ky., 12-11 in the championship game after leading 11-9 entering the bottom of the seventh inning. The winning run scored on a suicide squeeze bunt.
Justin Landewee hit in all three games Sunday, extending his hitting streak to 16 games. He has at least one hit in every contest this season.
Landewee had three RBIs in the title game, while Hunter Cox and Austin Atchley both added two RBIs. Corey Rogers had three hits. Landewee took the loss.
Cape began play Sunday with a 14-1, four-inning win over Metropolis, Ill. Landewee had two hits while Atchley and Sam Gerlach both had two RBIs. Aaron Wendel pitched all four innings for the victory.
Then came an 11-9 semifinal win over Marshall County, Ky. Trey Gardner had two hits, including a home run, Logan Henson had two hits and three RBIs and Wendel added two RBIs. Landewee allowed one hit in 2 2/3 innings for the victory.
