CHAFFEE -- Chaffee senior right-hander Tommy Stidham demonstrated Tuesday he's pretty much recovered from a late-season basketball injury that required a cast on his right foot.
Stidham did so in the form of a five-inning perfect game that came at the expense of the Charleston Blue Jays.
Stidham did not allow a hit or issue a walk in the Red Devils' 10-0 victory.
"He looked like his old form from a year ago," said Chaffee coach Brian Horrell, noting that Stidham had suffered a bone chip and ligament damage in the final weeks of the basketball season.
Stidham was efficient, throwing just 54 pitches, the first 12 of the game going for strikes. He struck out five batters.
"He got ahead in the counts," said Horrell. "I wasn't aware he had a perfect game until I look back after the game. I knew he had a no-hitter."
Stidham evened his record at 1-1 after taking the loss in an extra-inning setback to Cape Central last week. Chaffee improved to 2-1 as a team.
The Red Devils had 11 hits with Travis Hanback, Rocky Portell, Jeremy Lynn and Rusty Duncan all getting two apiece. Hanback and Duncan both finished with three RBIs.
Chaffee scored in all five innings, scoring once in the first, two in the second and third innings, three in the fourth and ending the game with two in the fifth.
Sikeston 16, Scott City 6, 6 innings
SCOTT CITY -- Scott City committed seven errors as it dropped to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the SEMO Conference.
"It was real ugly," said Scott City coach Mike Umfleet. "It was 4-2 and we're hanging with them, then the fourth inning rolls around and we just fall apart. We had four errors in one inning.
"But Sikeston has got a heck of a club. They threw their No. 3 or 4 today. They play defense well and get big hits and they put the pressure on us."
Lucas Ward pitched 3 1/3 innings and gave up 12 runs (five earned) on 11 hits, six walks and no strikeouts.
Jamie Heisserer went 2-for-2 with a double, Ben Sample went 2-for-3 with a double and Trenton Estes went 2-for-2.
Advance 12, Richland 1
ADVANCE -- The Hornets improved to 3-0 with a five-inning blowout over Richland on Tuesday.
Daniel Turner got the job done on the mound and at the plate as he struck out 11 and walked just one in five innings.
Turner also went 3-for-3.
On Monday, Advance beat Bell City 4-3 in a game that was shortened due to darkness.
Andy Jenkins got the win in three innings. He allowed no earned runs while walking four and striking out four. Garrett Broshuis got the save, striking out six of the eight batters he faced in two innings of work.
Poplar Bluff 11, Kelly 3
BENTON -- The Hawks committed 11 errors as they fell to 0-4 on the season.
Kelly mustered just five hits, two off the bat of Jon Heuring. One of his hits was a double and he finished with an RBI. Justin Simpher added a hit and two RBIs.
Poplar Bluff (1-3) took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. After Kelly scored twice in the bottom of the frame, the Mules broke loose for eight unanswered runs. Tim Schmitt lasted three innings and suffered the loss. He surrendered eight of Poplar Bluff's 11 hits.
"It was an ugly performance," said Kelly baseball coach Mike Scott. "There wasn't anything pretty about it. Obviously, when you commit 11 errors and have only five base hits, you're not playing well. This was our worst performance of the season. We have a lot to learn from it."
Oran 9, Leopold 0
ORAN -- Phillip Seyer and Adam Friga combined for 15 strikeouts and a two-hitter as Oran improved to 2-0.
Seyer struck out nine over the first four innings, and Friga fanned six over the final three innings. Each allowed a hit.
Freshman Trey Graviett had two of Oran's six hits, including a double and an RBI. Garrett Cook added an RBI triple and Joey Bickings had an RBI double.
Oran scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings and broke the game open with six runs in the sixth.
Jason Vandeven suffered the loss for Leopold. Ashton James had a double to account for one of the Wildcats' two hits.

MARBLE HILL -- Woodland pushed across 13 runs in the third inning en route to a five-inning victory.
Using 14 hits, Woodland evened its record at 1-1.
Winning pitcher Paul Long helped his cause with a bases-loaded triple. Long allowed three hits in five innings. He struck out three and walked one.
